true vintage 1950's dress that only retains a remnant of the original (same color) label that we are attributing to Carolyn Schnurer from her 1951 “Flight to India” resort collection
we've included some pics from an earlier listing we had that has since sold for your comparison.
the print is strikingly similar with some small differences that may have been made due to the different nature of the fabrics (the former was silk, this one is cotton) they were printed on.
this gorgeous dress has similar metallic-like paints over a deep plum purple background on cotton.
and look at that sleeve porn! show-stopping billowing balloon sleeves with a single deep inverted pleat and drawstring ties.

@MetMuseum has a dress with this same fabric in their collection and per their description, “The textile, custom-made for the collection by S. Edwards, features rich colors, metallic pigment and bold patterning that were likely inspired by the mirror work embroidery of the Kutch region of Gujarat in northwestern India, an area that Schnurer was particularly intrigued by during her travels."
